Conversion preserves image dimensions. Server-side validation checks the actual decoded format rather than trusting only the file extension.
When PNG is useful
PNG is useful when you need a lossless image container for editing, screenshots or workflows that specifically require PNG. Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore detail that JPEG compression already removed.
Expect the file to grow sometimes
Photographs often become larger as PNG because PNG is lossless. If your goal is simply a smaller photo, WebP or a compressed JPG is usually a better direction.
Metadata is your choice
You can keep common metadata during conversion or produce a cleaner output. The visible orientation is normalized so the result displays consistently.
Questions about convert jpg to png
Does JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Conversion avoids adding new JPEG loss, but it cannot recreate detail that was already discarded.
Will the PNG have transparency?
A normal JPG has no alpha transparency, so converting it does not invent transparent areas.
